Coed Hills Rural Artspace
Promoting Arts and Events and Creative Sustainable Living in heart of The Vale of Glamorgan
Just beyond the quiet picturesque village of St Hilary in the Vale of Glamorgan stands Coed Hills Rural Art Space. Surrounded by fields and woodlands with views across to the heritage coastline, the tranquil setting of Coed Hills supports a creative hub for artists, musicians, craft-makers and people exploring creative themes for sustainable low–carbon living.
With our vision to play an active role in our local community and a long history of staging innovative projects and events, Coed Hills Rural Arts Space has created a range of events, activities and workshops to celebrate the natural environment creative expression and holistic living.
We are currently working towards building our new 300 capacity venue, ‘The Big Barn,“ due to open in December 2012., and in the meantime Coed Hills continues to offer a range of community activities.
Our rural spaces are available for holding creative art days, workshops, company training events and music events including drumming and guitar workshops.
Staging our special Forest Schools ‘new outdoor classroom’ events compliment the school’s programme. Visiting children and young people are able to explore the woods and outdoor living and craft skills in an engaging and fun way.
Our 'Planting and Harvesting Days’ also gives school children access to the Coed Hill’s ‘ gardens and the Riverside Market Gardens’ for planting, picking and sampling the fresh organic produce available. These events bring to life the ‘importance of the sustainable living message’ for children as they enjoy our enchanting woodland setting. There are also goats and chickens for lessons on animal rearing.
In hosting workshops that promote ‘self-awareness ‘ themes, we support individuals who are pursuing ‘the art of living positively’. Personal trainer Claire Barraclough offers a range of learning and personal development sessions to individuals, groups and company staff.
The centre is also actively involved in research into accessible ‘green technology’. It supports opportunities to look at new ways of achieving low-impact living, encourages principles of ecological land use and focuses on successful food growing following permaculture principles.
We are committed to providing a rural art space which allows people to discover pathways to sustainable living and pathways to developing and sharing their individual creativity.

Latest News: November 2011.
Late Autumn 2011 is upon us and we’re moving forward with our plans to unveil our new Big Barn 300 capacity . The Big Barn Community Enterprise is busy with the conversion of the 1960’s agricultural barn into a unique event space and gallery. Thanks to grant assistance from Creative Rural Communities and Vale of Glamorgan Council, the space will be available for the local community to use throughout the year. Amazing volunteer help is helping this project progress well and we are aiming to put a roof in place before the oncoming winter storms.
With all the building work and refurbishment taking place, the Visitor Centre, Gallery and Woodland Sculpture Trail is closed during this period of renovation. However, there is still plenty going on, so stay tuned for news on upcoming workshops and ongoing projects.
We’ll keep you posted on our progress and look forward to welcoming you to the opening of the Big Barn in December 2012.
