Antonia Salter

Antonia Salter

Antonia (AKA Mixi) completed her degree in Contemporary Textile Practice at UWIC in Cardiff. She made and sold puppets and miniature sculptures made from clay, metal and cloth in galleries and worked in the Jerwood prize-winning Giffords Circus as costumier.

She followed this up with a Postgraduate diploma in Theatre Design at the Royal Welsh College and,  went on to after being shortlisted for the Linbury Biennial Theatre Design Award, she was employed to design and make sets, model boxes, masks, puppets and costumes for circus, dance, carnival and opera, including Diversions Dance Company and a puppetry piece shown at the Prague Quadrennial Theatre Design Competition. She has worked in the Czech Republic, Mexico and Spain. She is also a facepainter, published illustrator, graphic designer and photographer.

After battling with directors over the amount of polystyrene going into landfill, she decided to have a change of materials and opted for a more ecological approach. Now working almost solely in recycled and natural materials, she is working at Coed Hills Rural Artspace as a maker of green wood structures (tipis and yurts) and resident artist. She is a member  of the  South Wales Green Arts Network, is involved in Community Regeneration Projects in Wales and is preparing work for the Coed Hills Sculpture trail.

She co-founded and created the 'Helter Shelter' Tipi campsite, which has been available for bookings over the Summer months.
