Winter Weekender

Coed Hills Winter Solstice Weekender Cancelled

It has been brought to our attention that visitors to the recent event held here at Coed Hills Rural Artspace on the night of 31st October 2009 parked in our neighbours’ properties on Llantrithyd Road and dropped litter.

We would like to apologise for this and in light of these concerns we have cancelled the forthcoming Coed Hills Winter Solstice event, due to be held on the weekend of the 19th December 2009. We will not be running further events of this nature until we can be sure we have the infrastructure in place to prevent fellow residents of St Hilary from being adversely affected.

Winter and spring education programme launched

Coed Hills Rural Artspace is proud to launch its winter and spring education programmes commencing with the Introduction to Forest Gardening on 30th January 2010. The first courses will be centred on the new Forest Garden project and will work alongside local Transition Town groups in Cowbridge, Llantwit Major and Cardiff. Further courses will provide the locality with a facility providing Education for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship (ESDGC) – an initiative of the National Assembly for Wales.

These programmes follow on from the extremely successful Coed Hills Permaculture Design Course in September taught by Michelle Fitzsimmons of Edible Landscaping. Permaculture is a design process for human land use, which aims for full ecological and social sustainability through observant and imaginative planning. Participants were awarded the internationally recognised Certificate of Permaculture Design, enabling them to practise as designers themselves. Many participants of the over-subscribed course described the fortnight as the best thing they have ever done.

Visitor Centre closed for refurbishment

Coed Hills Rural Artspace Gallery and Visitor Centre is undergoing a period of renovation and refurbishment, and is now closed except for students to the new winter programme of courses.
