Permaculture
Permaculture (Permanent Agriculture/Culture) is a design system for creating sustainable human habitats. The aim is to create systems that are ecologically sound and economically viable which provide for their own needs, do not exploit or pollute, and are therefore sustainable in the long term while rapidly being able to regenerate degraded systems. Permaculture is a carefully chosen mixture of observation of natural systems, the wisdom contained in traditional farming (and other social) systems, and modern scientific knowledge. The course will cover the ethics and principles of permaculture then look at practical solutions to the problems we face as humans on one planet.

Design
This course will empower you to develop an integrated design strategy that uses principles of design and a series of techniques to create systems and lifestyles that have a long-term benefit to the environment and it’s inhabitants.
The last few days of the course will be focused on design methods. Participants will get to work on a permaculture design using the design tools and information learnt during the course. Michele Fitzimmons
Michele Fitzimmons developed her business Edible Landscaping shortly after completing her Permaculture Designers Certificate in 1992. Since then she has worked as a designer and consultant for many different projects. These include integrated farm designs, school wildlife gardens, community gardens and household kitchen gardens. One of most recent projects is a Whole School Permaculture Plan for Edwardsville Primary School, one of the largest sustainable school landscape designs in the UK, and is currently designing an edible landscape for the front of Chapter Arts Centre. For more information see www.ediblelandscaping.co.uk.
